IQ Energy Management

AI Optimisation

IQ Energy Management can help in almost any home, but it delivers the most powerful savings when used with a dynamic rate plan.

How it works

If you have a dynamic rate plan, the price of energy varies quarter hourly based on the availability of renewable energy and the amount of demand across the grid. IQ Energy Management constantly adjusts the source of energy—solar, battery, or grid—and automatically schedules how and when energy is consumed in your home to maximise savings.

Sourcing grid power on winter nights

On winter nights, there can be an abundance of wind-generated electricity on the grid. While most people sleep, high supply combined with low demand keeps the electricity price low. The prices can even turn negative. In this scenario, IQ Energy Management responds by charging your EV and your battery with inexpensive grid power.

Using battery power when prices are high

Before sunrise, when there’s no sun and little wind, renewable energy production is low. But demand is high as people wake up and get ready for the day, so electricity prices rise. IQ Energy Management will be able to deprioritise EV charging at these times and save you money by drawing stored energy from your IQ Battery.

Selling excess solar and utilising battery power

Your system starts producing solar energy once the sun rises, but daytime demand keeps electricity prices high. In AI Optimisation mode, IQ Energy Management powers your home with solar and sends any excess power from the panels to the IQ Battery, while choosing not to run your EV charger with expensive grid power.

Positive gains from negative prices

During the summer, there’s usually ample solar available in the afternoons. Paired with low demand, this high supply can even create negative energy prices—meaning you get paid to use power from the grid. To take advantage, IQ Energy Management prevents solar exports while maximising grid consumption by running your EV charger and charging the IQ Battery.

Dynamic tariffs are constantly changing, and it’s impractical to track them and adjust consumption in real time. Instead, you can rely on IQ Energy Management to intelligently forecast and manage how you source, use, and store power.
It’s an ingenious capability that keeps you ahead of the market—and ensures that the Enphase Energy System generates the most savings possible, every day and year after year.
