Thoughtful design, ethical commitment, and renewable energy come together

For Anthony Anella, President of Parkland Hills, Inc., the decision to invest in solar was driven by personal conviction. As he puts it, “Because it is the right thing to do in the context of climate change.”

That belief became the foundation for a project that not only embraced sustainability but also celebrated architectural heritage. Blending tradition with innovation, this building is a modern tribute to New Mexico architecture—with a solar twist. Inspired by the monumental stone and adobe structures of Chaco Canyon and Ranchos de Taos, its design features a solar array that not only generates clean energy, but also enhances the building's visual character. As Anella describes "...the walls of this building provide a canvas for the interplay of sunlight and shadow."

Anella shared a quote that served as a design inspiration for this site, from Aldo Leopold's Land Ethic®: “Examine each question in terms of what is ethically and esthetically right as well as what is economically expedient. A thing is right when it tends to preserve the integrity, stability, and beauty of the biotic community. It is wrong when it tends otherwise.”

This installation stands as a powerful example of how thoughtful design, ethical commitment, and renewable energy can come together to create a lasting impact.

For this commercial solar project, Anthony Anella drew from a successful prior installation at his residence to guide the path forward.

Anella shares, "Experienced Solar installed a similar steel post-and-I-beam-mounted solar array at my home. I am impressed by their craftsmanship and by their long-term commitment to solar energy. I am also impressed by the long-term support provided by Enphase. For this reason, I decided to work with both Experienced Solar and Enphase on this commercial project I developed and own."

This unique combination of post, beam, and masonry construction, along with custom solar mounting design, created the need for a specialized solar installation strategy. Experienced Solar rose to the challenge, ensuring the final system aligned with the architectural vision and delivered the performance the customer expected.

It not only provides power to the building, it provides shade and an artistic element." He added, "We felt that even with the challenge of wiring the microinverters internally in the custom racking, sticking with Enphase and microinverters was the best choice."
